Cafe Hangout: Broadway Cafe at 15 Duxton Rd, Singapore

The Duxton/Tanjong Pagar area is really chock full of new cafes and restaurants. Broadway Cafe is a relatively new kid on the block, which I only got to now because I don't work in that area any more. One week night after a satisfying meal of xiao long baos and other Shanghainese goodies at the nearby famous Qun Zhong Eating House at 21 Neil Road, we went in search of a place to continue with our catching up (the eating house was only conducive for quick eating, not chats).

Hence Broadway Cafe. I quite liked the open concept of the shophouse space - it is very spacious and there are comfortable couches sprinkled all around.

There are also some quirky decor to the place. Like this wall decal.

What we found out was that this cafe is famous for their alcoholic cakes. We ordered some drinks first, and what struck my eye was also the slightly tongue-in-cheek menu. You can order a Tea Latte.. Caramel Macchiato.. or a Latte Boy. To go please! hahaa.

Their cake menu. Their legendary cake was supposed to be the "Blonde Bailey". I wanted to try it but sadly it was out that night!

Here's their selection for that night. Still quite a fair bit of alcoholic cakes to choose from. However we decided to go for the Belgium Chocolate (I think) since we are not sure about the rest of the available flavours.

Here's the cake! It exceeded expectations to be honest. It was really light and layered with wafers. My biggest fear from such cakes is that it is usually very sweet. However in this case, it was more moderate and had the distinct taste of the cocoa from the chocolate, which is a good sign since it means good quality chocolate has been used.

I would say to consider this place if you have a sweet tooth, likes to try cakes and loves to drink! At the same time, it is a good place to just chill out and chat because its quiet and pleasant. The lady owner was also very genial. Definitely recommend to add this to your list of cafes to consider around the Duxton area, if it is not the Pigeonhole or Group Therapy on the same stretch. After that you can also check out Flor (the japanese cake shop) or Littered With Books bookstore just next door!
