Food Review: Peperoni's at Binjai Park

Even with all the new restaurants, there still remains in the F&B scene the oldies that are goodies. I think Peperoni's might belong to that category. First knew about it from my colleague over lunch one day -- and then someone mentioned it again much later, which reminded me that I needed to go check it out. Hence when my other birthday dinner rolled around, it was the perfect place to go to.

Binjai was the branch that was most mentioned, so that was the branch we went to. It was off Bukit Timah Road, sounds secluded but actually quite easy to get to from the main road, just gotta walk in to the charming quiet estate.

Very casual, great for big groups and families. There were at least 3 groups of people celebrating birthdays with their 21" giant pizza ($50). And a candle on top.

Also just found out that the Peperoni's chains are owned by the Les Amis Group. Ahhh.

My favorite of that night got to be the calamari fritti ($14). Unpretentious, just good ol' calamari with crispy batter that coats the fresh and non-rubbery insides. Very enjoyable. Finally, some good calamari!

Next was the Mozarella Fasciata Con Prosciutto ($17) which is the pan-fried mozzarella wrapped in parma ham. We were deciding between the parma ham with rock melon or the caprese, so this is a great compromise because it has both! Very yummy as well. The rocket leaves were quite generous, and there was exactly 3 pieces for us to have 1 each.

For Pizzas, we ordered I think 2 medium pizzas ($19 each). We had the Diavola (lynette's fav), which is really just good ol' peperoni just like the ones in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

It was rather salty, the pepperoni. The pizza itself was okay. But.. salty!

We also got the Manzo - which is sliced beef, garlic and bell peppers. This was more enjoyable.
I like the thin crust, and this place does it quite well.

We then topped off the meal with some light homemade gelato ($4). We had the vanilla.. and mandarin or some citrusy flavour. They were the perfect end to the meal.

I can see why this place is a hit. With consistent and well-done pizzas and pastas amidst a genial atmosphere in a quiet neighbourhood, be sure to think of this place next time you're hankering for a slice!
