Coffeeshop Find: Wok Inn Fish & Chips at 21, Lor 7 Toa Payoh, Singapore 310021

I had one of the best fish and chips in my life recently in Singapore. Recommended to me by my brother who have heard but never tried it before, we went to try it last Saturday with my primary school band friends.

Apparently the owner of the stall used to be a cab driver from London who upon being in Singapore decided that there are no good fish and chips on our sunny island. You can read a bit more about the history on ieatishootipost.

He then took it upon himself to sell it. He came over to chat with us and told us that the importance lies in the batter which seals the fresh unmarinated dory fish from the oil so that the fish is steamed well.

I really liked the batter too which wasn't too thick or floury. When hot it is really delicious!
The fries were also very good because it maintained the real potato taste.

The only thing about the fish is it is quite one dimensional in taste. Because it is a home-styled simple fish there are no bells and whistles. Feel free to sprinkle some salt and vinegar on it, true British style minus the newspaper wrapping.

So much better than the one at East Coast Road - Smith's.

And it costs only $5.80! I am so going back there in future.

After that, we took a short walk to Blk 128 for Creamier. Now this fish & chips + ice cream dessert is a killer combi.

Highly recommend that you try it out!

  1. Moved to PoMo Mall, at 1 Selegie Rd #01-20/21! It is also renamed Mr Fish & Chips at Cafe Wok inn, and as always it is super delicious!
