Food Review: Outback Steakhouse at Millenia Walk

Was invited by the folks over at OpenRice for a OpenRice Tasty Union (ORTU) at Outback Steak at Millenia Walk last week, thanks to a recommendation from Celes :)

I've always seen that place around but never had the chance to try it out until now! Well that night we sure had our fill. Take a look at the menu!

One of things which I really like of any restaurant is the serving of free bread/water to start of the night. It helps to warm the stomach and keep hunger pangs at bay while the food is being prepared.

Over at Outback, they serve a type of American bread with remade butter. That meant they melted the butter and added in cream/whipped or not to make it a bit lighter. It was really yummy. In fact, the bread was surprisingly good, since it was also served warm and toasty while it was quite fluffy on the inside.

The bread is larger than the girl! In this case, Cheryl of ms-skinnyfat

We then had Seared Ahi Tuna Salad for appetiser ($12.90 for half). It was rather pleasant, with the crackly wonton skins and fresh tuna slices.

There was also the Typhoon Bloom ($15.90). I don't really like onions so I only tried a little bit, but to me it was nothing special. Just fried onion rings.

The Alice Springs Quesadillas which I can't find on the menu was also served. It was rather enjoyable as well! Great as a light bite.

Lastly for appetizers we had the Combination Platter ($25.90), with 'buffalo' wings, chili cheese fries and fried mushrooms. The last item excited me the most! Overall a very "pub" type of dish, but all 3 were quite heavy on the salt. I don't think the doctors would recommend it.

On to the mains! Well, we had 2 types of steak, a pasta and a chicken/ribs combo dish. Of all 4, I would say definitely just go for the ribeye if you want a nice cut of juicy delicious steak. Also they do serve sauces if you ask, so do that if you like it with some gravy!

The Outback Special 11oz ($33.90) sirloin was too tough for my liking.
The chicken and ribs combo was average.

I quite liked the seafood pasta ($23.90) though! If you don't eat steak, happen to find yourself in a steakhouse, order the seafood pasta.

My favorite! The ribeye ($37.90-39.90). It looks like a flatter version of the sirloin, but done in medium rare and just right amount of pink inside.

Lastly some courtesy desserts. I hate to say this but they are really not very good as I find them too sweet and lacking in depth of flavours or textures. Save your calories.

I had to give this a neutral rating because even though the company and the service was excellent, I feel that there are quite a few misses more than hits. The redeeming items were the ribeye - other than that, I would not think of going to Outback for anything else.
