Food Review: Le Bistrot at 2 Stadium Walk, Singapore 397691

Finally had some time to blog this public holiday. This post is long overdue, but I felt like I have to do it any way! This is because I have finally tried Le Bistrot, and I want to tell you about it. For maybe a year or two, I've already been hearing good things about the place, which is tucked away at the Kallang indoor stadium.

The chance finally came when we went for lunch with the boss one day after a meeting. Since this was close to the office we decided to go there. The decor's really pretty and there's plenty of natural light streaming in to the wood benches with cushions.

The food/drinks prices were pretty hefty. It was $50++ for entree + main course or main course + dessert. But it involved really good food. Once in a while it is ok to splurge. Or have a really generous boss :P

We ordered 3 mains, 2 starters and 1 dessert between the 4 of us.

We started with Oignon Farci aux Noix de Saint-Jacques Grillées etsonVelouté de Maïs (+$8) which the menu described as chargrilled Hokkaido scallops served in a salt-baked onion, with a corn velouté and toasted pinenuts.

I would describe it as scallops on top of a stick (onion below) and drizzled with an corny creamy sauce.

The other starter for the 4 of us was the fried half boiled egg with fresh salmon and salad. Or, from the menu, Gravlax (Saumon Cru Mariné), Oeuf Mollet Croquant, Crème Fraîche à la Menthe - raw salmon fillet home cured with dill and gin, drizzled with white truffle oil, and served with a deep-fried soft boiled egg, mint crème fraîche and mesclun salad. Nothing much to shout about, though the deep-fried egg was really fun to eat.

For mains we had the Steak Frites - Chargrilled beef steak with pink peppercorn beef jus served with pommes frites and mesclun salad. Beef was quite tender.

Then the lamb. Highlight of the mains! It was called the Carré d'Agneau au Thym, Gratin Dauphinois au Pecorino Romano (fromage Italien au lait de brebis) (+$12) which translates to lamb rack roast crusted with thyme, served with potatoes gratinated with pecorino romano (sheep's cheese). The lamb was very soft and falls off the bone. No strong gamey taste. If you are a lamb rack fan, you need to try this.

Lastly for the mains, the Duck Confit! With honey-mustard vinaigrette and creamy potato purée. Also fell off the bone very easily. Not too dry at all (common problem for duck confit) and the skin was super crispy and enjoyable.

Lastly, because there's always room for dessert, the Creme Brulee set where we get to choose 3 flavors.  We had the bourbon vanilla bean, amaretto-griottine and bergamot (Earl Grey tea). Unfortunately the flavors are not that strong in the creme, but nonetheless it was very enjoyable.

Now I can see what's the fuss is about. Le Bistrot is a great place to bring a close friend to for a meal. Might also be quite romantic at night. Quality hearty food and pretty atmosphere. Bookmark this for dinner!
