Sweet Eats: The Inspired Chef Ice Cream e-shop launches in Singapore

There are new ice creams to be had in town, and it does not have a shop! That is, a brick and mortar one. Instead, 4 Inspired Chefs have collaborated to come up with a first-in-Singapore e-commerce ice cream shop selling artisanal ice creams lovingly made by them, called The Inspired Chef.

I was kindly invited to review two of their ice cream flavours by previewing the online ordering system. Everything went without a hitch on the well-designed website - from selecting a minimum of 2 flavours (1 pint for $14.90), adding it to cart and putting in my delivery address for delivery ($3.50).

Read on to find out how you can win a tub of ice cream at the end of the post!

The order came swiftly at the scheduled time in a very nice paper bag and box with the two pints packed into them! It even came with 2 metal spoons and napkins. For $16.65 each (incl. shipping), that's a really good deal. I won't say it is too overpriced considering it is delivered right to your doorstep, made with high quality ingredients.

I had ordered the Divine Chocolate Tart by Chef Daniel Tay, founder and creator of Bakerzin.

Apparently he was inspired to make his version of a rich chocolate ice cream with a twist by adding crunchy bits of butter crumble and a dash of sea salt to it.

It was really smooth and creamy, while retaining the intense chocolatey taste. I also like how it is not too sweet, but instead had a depth to the taste that is comparable or surpassing gelatos.

The next flavour was the Double Peanut Fudge by Chef Willin Low from Wild Rocket.

Doesn't that already sound so sinfully pleasurable? For me, peanut butter is close to being one of the ultimate sinful foods humankind has invented. This particular pint of good sin is made of butter ice cream (!!!) infused with bits of crunchy Asian peanut candy brittle and dark chocolate fudge.

I think this is my favorite among the two because it is just so buttery and indulgent, while having a delicious crunchy texture as contrast.

According to Chef Low, he was "inspired by one of my favourite childhood snacks, 'gong tng'. Its crunchy texture serves as a beautiful counterpoint to the creamy peanut butter ice cream…"

I love "gong tng" too! In case you forgot, this is how it looks like. Photo credited to QiuQiu (it's the only one I can find)

Finally, here are the two flavours I scooped out. You can see the bits in them better!

I loved both the ice creams! Compliments to The Inspired Chefs for coming up with such a cool business idea and turning it into a reality so as to spread good ice cream all around the island.

And now for the exciting part - I am giving away The Inspired Chef ice creams to 5 of my readers!

    2) CaraMEL(issa) Popcorn Avalanche because I'm like popcorn. In a neutral environment I remain a kernel but when put in the "right" temperature I puff up and open up my personality to others.

  9. Qn1: Caramel Popcorn Avalanche and Double Peanut Fudge

Qn2: ''Raspberry Cheesecake Rumble" best matches my personality. Cream cheese, raspberries and butter crumbles although are seemingly uninteresting on their own but when they come together, the combi becomes very dynamic. This resembles my electric personality- 'cold and quiet' on the outside( like cream cheese which often gives the 'boring' air). However, if you delve a lil deeper, i can be pretty quirky and sarcastic (crisp butter crumbles) but is still very much a sentimental and introspective person. (raspberries- raw with subtle sweetness and a tang to it!)

I like how ''Raspberry Cheesecake Rumble" takes on a refreshing spin by the articulate artisan-Pang whom although handcrafted the ice cream to be more premium but still manages to retain the familarity and authenticity of this classic classic pairing of ingredients. ( familiar and authentic- two adjectives sorely missing from a lot of “sophisticated” food) Thus, this flavour is all kinds of awesomeness:)

  12. Caramel Popcorn Avalanche and Double Peanut Fudge contain nuts.

I'd say it's the Caramel Popcorn Avalanche. When it comes to buying popcorn at the cinemas, I'm never quite the decisive one! I like having the best of both words in a tub - both sweet and salty! Plus, which one gets more love? Popcorn or CORNy movies? I can't say for sure!

  13. Caramel Popcorn and Double Peanut Fudge

I checked the 4 products, and I guess Caramel Popcorn is the closest to match my personality.
From what I imagined, salty mixed with sweet flavor. It's like my attitude, not all sweet but also bold and tough. And from what we all experience when eating popcorn, it always gets stuck in our teeth, I'm like that with my family and friends, I would always stick to them no matter what.
