Japanese Oishi: Botan Japanese Restaurant at #01-01 Far East Square, S048766

I struggle quite a fair bit in posting about Botan. Why? Because I am selfish and want to keep this gem to myself. But then again the goal of this blog is for me to share with my readers all the good food out there so I am obligated to write about this place! Botan has been around for quite a while, but I only found out about it this year when a couple of my colleagues revealed that they would go to this Japanese restaurant at Far East Square for tuna dons and all the authentic Japanese food.

So I went. And I went back. And went back again with more people. And everyone agreed that this place is the perfect combination of authentic Japanese food at high quality without exorbitant prices. The holy trinity of Jap food!

In any case, here are some of the items we will order every time I go.

First, the fugu mirin boshi ($10) - which is actually PUFFER FISH! I know right. I was super apprehensive when I first knew about it, but turns out this is a great beer snack that tastes like BA KWA. It is really awesome so do order it.

This is the Sashimi Set ($25) that comes with A LOT of sides. The sashimi itself? Undeniably OH YEE SHI.

Rice, miso soup, chawanmushi, and a little bit of noodles. Fit for a king!

Not a fan of raw fish for ALL your protein intake? Then there's the Tonkatsu Set for I think roughly $23-25 as well. And it comes with raw fish too. Say waaaat.

And this is the set I always order, which is not on the front page (the dinner sets) - but costs around the same - the Chirashi Sushi set ($25) that is set on top of a bed of rice (the only complaint is their rice could be a hit and miss sometimes) and laid out like this. It comes with chawanmushi and miso soup as well. We all get a slice of watermelon/orange after our meals for dessert, and there's hot towels before meals too.

Lastly, in case you're wondering how the Botan Bento (S$28) looks like (in Oct 2016) - it has super a lot of items.

Here's the menu (as of Oct 16 as well)

I can't think of any other Japanese restaurant that is such value for money for quality Jap. My go-to place for last minute dinners in town (it's deserted during week days because it is in the CBD) and its alright on weekends as well if you make a booking!
