Buffet: Triple Three Hokkaido Harvests from 19-30 Oct 2016 at Mandarin Orchard, Singapore

It's always been my dream to visit Hokkaido so I can finally see and touch powdery snow for the first time in my life. There's also the food, which is legendary of course. The milk (hence butter), melons and the seafood there are unlike those from down south. But since I can't go this year, I will just have to contend with the amazing annual Hokkaido Harvests dinner buffet by Mandarin Orchard hotel's Triple Three restaurant from 19 to 30 October 2016, 6.30pm to 10pm daily.

Of course we had to try for ourselves on what's cooking so a special media preview was held, of which we sampled some but not ALL of the Hokkaido items. Still it gave us a pretty good taste of what to expect when it launches. For example, there's the mouthwatering steamed wagyu beef slices

These were so soft and tender, you'll be craving for more! I also like the sauces that comes with these.

There's also the new Kani (Crab) Miso Gratin to watch out for. That green stuff on top is technically not cheese, but the innards of the crab. It does not sound as gross as it might look though - just a very creamy, flavourful shell of minced crab meat, so you don't have to work at it!

I also sampled some delectable looking sapporo ramen noodles, made ala minute with fresh seafood and char siew!

The noodles itself I find to be rather average tasting in the end - I suspect the broth was not hot or rich enough. However, would you look at the ingredients! So get a bit of the noodles and just enjoy the accompaniments.

There's really tonnes of Japanese food around.

Fresh seafood and produce from Hokkaido included, like scallops and hamachi (yellowtail).

I took a select few items - my favourite was the tiny chirashi box filled with fresh sashimi on a tiny portion of Japanese rice.

The teppanyaki section had fresh wagyu cubes being pan fried to perfection. They looked so good sizzling on that hot teppanyaki!

There's fresh prawns and some veggies you can request to be fried too.

Lastly, the robotayaki station with a very obliging Japanese chef grilling up many items.

Anything you want!

And what's a Hokkaido Harvest without some of that famous Hokkaido cheese tarts? We got to try some but they weren't using hokkaido cheese (not ready!) and these were super yummy already. The actual Hokkaido tarts will be even more so I believe.

What are you waiting for? Call to book a slot (or Chope! it) to get a taste of Hokkaido starting from next Wednesday onwards! For limited time only so do it soon.
