Hidden Find: Ming Hui Wanton Noodle at 290 Jalan Besar, Singapore 208953

October 29, 2016

I have found the best wanton noodles in Jalan Besar/Lavender area now that Kok Kee Noodles at Hoe Nam Building have seemingly retired for good. It's none other than Ming Hui Wanton Noodle at the corner coffeeshop at 290 Jalan Besar (corner of Allenby Road, Tyrwhitt Road and Jalan Besar). I was told that it tastes a lot like the wanton noodles one would find in Muar, Malaysia, as the noodle master hails from Malaysia himself!

What I really love about this is the texture of the wanton noodles (S$3/S$4), which is very springy without any alkaline taste, while maintaining a solid bite to it (as compared to the 'crispier' Thai wanton noodles). The char siew is also marinated in-house, and the chilli is freshly made there too. Even the wantons in the soup is quite exquisite, though some might opt to upgrade to the dumplings.

I also did a vlog:

Anyway, here's the stall - they are open 24/7, till 4am every day except for alternate Sundays (two in a month) that they are closed. Which means you can go for a bowl of goodness at 1am on a Friday night if you like.

You will be able to find it under this nondescript, rather obscure coffeeshop called Ernest Restaurant at 290 Jalan Besar Road, which is at the corner of Allenby and Tyrwhitt/Jalan Besar.

I really enjoyed these noodles and would recommend everyone to go. I don't normally blog about hawker food but since it's quite rare to find yummy wanton noodles I have to tell you about it. Big thumbs up - try it everybody!
