Went to a new ice cream parlor in town! This time it is in the happening enclave of Upper Thomson, which is rejuvenating quite nicely with new interesting shops. Didn't know about it until a heads up from @nicholaslimsg on it. I hang out at that area often, but these shops gotta stop popping up!
There seem to be an artisanal ice cream revival recently, having tasted 7th Heaven at taka basement just last week. Same concept, home-made ice cream that is one-store only. They seem to be fighting against the frozen yogurt stores that are popping up left right and center. So now we have Udders, 7th Heaven, Tom's Palette, Scoopz, Ice Cream Chefs (at Jln Kuras), Icekimo (also nearby)...
The newest one, just a short walk from another new-ish ice cream parlor called Scoopz, is called Salted Caramel artisan ice cream. Coincidentally, it is my favourite flavour after rum and raisin.
The ice creams are priced VERY reasonably at 2.50 per scoop and 4 dollars for a double scoop. In many places where it's easily 3.50 for a scoop, I would say its a bargain.
**EDIT** I think the prices have adjusted upwards to around $3 or $3.50 per scoop!
There were 3 staffs behind the counter acceding to hordes of people who request to try the ice creams.

The shop itself is very airy, clean, modern.

They also offer waffle and cakes. The oreo cake looks delish!
So many flavours...
Many flavours, but I feel like they concentrate on a few winners. Stout & Chocolate was particularly interesting, but after a taste test, it was not up to par. Tried their Salted Caramel, but apparently because it was defrosting it did not taste good. In fact, it reminded me of sour plum. Got to go back and do a re-taste!
Flavours are: Stout & Chocolate, Earl Grey, Vanilla, Peanut Butter, Salted Caramel, Horlicks Tim Tam, Mango, Lychee, Strawberry, Rum & Raisin. (Baileys was a new addition!)
After a robust selection process from our tastebuds at the counter, we ended up with 2 Horlicks Tim Tam, Strawberry, Early Grey and 2 Rum & Raisin.
Tried the chocolate with waffle as well. The chocolate was super intense and the waffles were warm and fluffy! Super yummy, and it's only 6 bucks in total!
Those flavours were great. Overall a good solid ice cream parlour. My personal favourite had to be the Horlicks Tim Tam, even though I don't really like Horlicks the drink, the ice cream was a perfect combination of malty goodness and crunchy choco bits. The rum and raisin was also on par with Udders' with the strong rum taste. A surprise was the strawberry, it had bits of real strawberries inside and the whole taste was refreshing and not artificial tasting at all! The Earl Grey also had a delicate taste that just wafts through your mouth slowly and gently.
MMmmm.

Thanks for the review! I happened to be on the other side of the road when I noticed this shop. Definitely going to stop by. I was at Tom's Palette at Shaw Towers a few days ago and they didn't have my favourite flavour Cookies and Cream. The Horlicks Tim Tams and the waffles sound like a winning combo to me!
ReplyDeleteIce Cream Chefs is at Jalan Kuras not Kurau! :D
ReplyDelete@jeanne: thanks for your comment! Let me know how it goes.

ReplyDeleteHi Alexis
ReplyDeleteyou may want to drop by a new parlor in the same area - Brownice.
Their ice cream has no dairy, eggs, and sugar. Yup, you read it right.
Drop by and have a go at their stuff. Even the waffles and brownies are just as guilt free.
