Dessert Review: Häagen-Dazs Ice Cream Mooncakes

I was sent a box of Häagen-Dazs' new Petite Auspicious Ice Cream Mooncake Set to try out a week ago, and thought it was rather ingenious for them to catch on the Chinese Mooncake Festival. After all, there are ice cream cakes, so why not ice cream mooncakes? They are available at all Häagen-Dazs cafes from now till 14th September. There's also the Classic Gift Set (4 mooncakes $68), the Petite Blossom Set (2 mooncakes, $48) and the Blossoms of Tranquility (1 mooncake, for dine in only, $25++).

Petite Auspicious Set, $48
They looked really pretty. One's in cookie & cream flavor, while the other's macadamia nut.

This is how it looked like when cut open. The 'yolk' is actually made of mango sorbet ice cream, and both had a biscuit base. Such effort! It's amazing that there's a dessert rendition of how a mooncake looks like, even on the inside! I do wish the mango taste was stronger though. It tasted faintly like lemon when I first had it.

I did think that at $48 nett the set of 2 ice cream mooncakes were kind of pricey, but if you are looking for a different type of mooncake experience this year, or do not like lotus paste, this might be a good replacement. Or send it as a gift to someone who appreciates the modern twist on a classic. Do note that the typical Häagen-Dazs sweetness is there though, so you will need to have a sweet tooth to enjoy this! I will also recommend sharing 1 mooncake between 2 people.
