Healthier Food Review: Quiznos Singapore

Did you know that Quiznos is the second largest submarine chain in the world, and opened by someone who used to be a chef? To me, being second means having a challenger mentality that makes you stay constantly on your feet because you could lose the spot easily. I still remember when Quiznos opened up in Singapore 4 or 5 years ago at Tanjong Pagar near where I worked, and at Far East Square. I was very curious how it will stack up against the other sandwich chain in SG.

I love the comfortable interior of Quiznos restaurants, and the way the subs were served on plates that had a little handle on it and look just like their speech bubble logo. Plus the free peppers at the side that you can add to your sandwich yourself, and tasty side items from the menu such as the broccoli cheese or chicken noodle soup.

The subs are very high quality, which they pride themselves on. You could taste the freshness of the ingredients and breads are hand-crafted. They are the first to toast their subs, which helps bring out the flavors, and hence the "mmm... toasty!" tagline.

That's why I was very happy to go check out Quiznos at Orchard Central as they have joined the HPB's Healthier Dining Programme in offering wheat bread subs and a salad that falls around 500 calories, while maintaining their deliciousness! You will see the Healthier Dining programme signs at the cashier (including the Healthy Go Lucky draw!) and on their new Healthier Choice menu.

First thing that I need to rave about - the wheat bread. It was friggin' delicious! Why eat regular white bread when there's this? It was soft, fluffy, and slightly sweet with the fragrance of the wheat coming out from the first bite onwards. I was so surprised I might have looked at the sub in disbelief for a few seconds.

There are two subs that are of Healthier Choices. My favorite after trying both will be the 5-inch Honey Mustard Chicken ($6.70) hands down! The sauce was very helpful.

The Turkey Ranch and Swiss ($6) was good too but because it is so lean it ends up being a bit too dry inside for me.

The Chicken Caesar Salad Bowl ($3.50) is also a good affordable introduction to the menu (salad at less than $5 is a steal!). The romaine lettuce was packed to the brim and very fresh because it was crisp and crunchy! The dressing is served on the side, which means you get to control how much calories you want to consume! The only gripe I have is that the salad comes with onion stripes, and I don't like raw onions so I had to pick them out. It's good for you though!

I love Quiznos, and will definitely back!

These are all their 7 branches in SG in case there's one near you. Grab a Healthier Choice sub for lunch soon!
