Japanese wagyu beef lovers rejoice! Wagyu Wednesdays at Mandarin Orchard's Triple Three restaurant is probably one of the best places to enjoy some solid A4 wagyu. I like how the restaurant creates a theme out of the buffets so its not just generic international fare. For just S$88++ for adults on Sundays to Wednesdays (and there's a 50% second adult when using DBS/POSB/UOB credit card, so effectively $$66 per pax) it's such a good deal too!
Look at the marbling on that A4-grade Kumamoto wagyu, which just goes on the teppanyaki pan for a few minutes. Free flow (served in twos).
Wagyu Wednesdays definitely draws in the crowd but I like how comfortable the buffet line is designed for people to 'shop' around.
There are other ways to enjoy wagyu, such as the Nikujaga (Wagyu and potato stew) style. You can expect rich thick broth brimming with umami.
Then of course there's the shabu style. Actually amongst all the styles, this was the one where I felt was not up to par, as the soup was tasteless. So save the calories on this one.
Go for a Wagyu sushi, perhaps? This was just pure bliss.
The tataki beef slices (lightly marinated and seared) with yuzu and ponzu dipping sauce was quite interesting, but when you have such high quality beef, really there is no need for sauce.
Just go for the grilled wagyu. Mmmm.
I also really enjoyed the mini Wagyu don (pictured bottom right) with a perfectly cooked onsen egg.
Other than indulging in the Japanese wagyu, the rest of the buffet spread remains, such as the pasta station. So many options, so little stomach space!
There's also a chilli crab bun I had to try. It was nice and fluffy but the filling could be spicier and crabbier.
Lastly of course there's a big dessert spread (the ice cream pops were really good!) but the highlight of that section was this - the 7-layered RAINBOW cake. It's straight AND tastes good (creamy and not too sweet or artificial)!
Even though I had a friend go back to have the Wagyu Wednesday buffet again recently and found them not to be as mind-blowing the second time, I'll still say that someone looking for a value-for-money Japanese wagyu beef buffet, Triple Three is the place to book a seat at.
