Lunch review: Social Place at #01-22 FORUM Mall, Singapore 238884

Finally went to check out this modern Cantonese restaurant that I've been eyeing since before Circuit Breaker and this whole pandemic started. That is Social Place on Level 1 of FORUM Mall, which is tucked away in the far side of Orchard Road. I have seen photos of that jiggly pig dessert and I wanted to jiggle it too! Plus I've seen their menu and it wasn't anything I have seen before.
A weekday lunch time did not seem to deter people from dining in the relatively full restaurant. It might sound strange, but I do prefer a bustling restaurant to an empty one! So it was good that this place had people even as we are in Phase 2 of the restrictions. The ventilation was also excellent.
I especially enjoyed this room - the Mahjong Tile room! I think they can close it up to make it a more private space as well.
Their dine-in (or in-store takeaway) menu is straightforward but not your usual Canto or dimsum fare.

Here was our food! We each ordered the Dim Sum Platter (S$12.80)- which was a bad choice because the platter contained more sweet and plain items which we didn't really enjoy. So I would not recommend that one!
What I 100% would recommend instead is their Truffle Shitake Buns (S$6.80 for 3pcs) which was buns made to resemble mushrooms. Very creative and effort-laden! It was also soft, fluffy and had mushroom fillings inside.
Another dish which was absolutely enjoyable - but a bit too much for 2 pax (we were warned) - the Eggplant Sauteed with Crispy Fried Garlic (S$9.80) where the garlic was super fragrant and crunchy against the superb batter on the eggplant that contrasted with the soft interior.
The other recommended side dish you need to try is the Charcoal Custard Bun (S$8.80) which had smoke wafting from it as I broke open to reveal the golden liquid inside. The balance between sweet and savoury was done on the smokey platform.

So good, even ants were attracted! (Actually this was a print. There's one with flies on it too, done artistically!) It's little touches like this which lends to the whimsical feel of the place.
And finally - the jiggly pig I was talking about! The Small Pig Pudding (S$6.80) is actually a milk pudding which doesn't really taste of much. The fun is in digging into this adorable little piggy.

Here's me with my Darling in our long overdue socialising!

Overall I would totally recommend for you to check out Social Place because it is fun, modern and had good dishes to boot which delights not just the tastebuds but other senses as well.
