Lunch Review: Abundance at 63A Lengkok Bahru, #01-378, Singapore 151063

You wouldn't expect the void deck of a sleepy HDB estate in Red Hill at Lengkok Bahru to house a gastropub, but that's where Abundance resides. I was very impressed that the owners decided to take a gamble in this area and especially in this location for their craft beer and modern Asian fare, since it is very much a heartland enclave.

Here's the food menu in the tiny space (but well-ventilated). I was surprised to see many HK/Cantonese style dishes like the fried rice and dumplings you'll find at Din Tai Fung or Crystal Jade on the menu other than the baos they are famous for. Some of the sides also seem to go very well with beer, which I suppose is the idea.

I decided to give their CCB aka the Crispy Chicken Bun (S$7.90) a try. It was indeed a very CC. However, if I had one gripe, it will be that the mango slaw with the Thai peanut butter sauce was a little bit too much in terms of quantity, and wetness. It's like trying to shout over the beautiful crispy chicken, which is having none of it. Overall though very easy and FUN to eat. 4/5

I also shared a plate of Red Hot Chilli Dumplings (S$9.90) which err, wasn't hot at all in terms of spice levels. So rest assured, I'll say this is almost child-friendly for how NOT spicy it is. But very nicely made with fresh bouncy shrimp inside. 4/5

My cousin-in-law had the recommended XO Fried Rice with added Tobiko (S$11.90+$2) which he enjoyed very much as well. I had a taste and was also quite impressed by the taste - so much so I had to get a Classic fried rice to take home!

We didn't manage to try any of the craft beers on tap since it was lunch time (not that it stopped me before), but I can see how it will be a nice place for casual dinner and drinks! Hopefully I can go back to try more of their food, and beer. But overall a great place as I mentioned on my TikTok

🙅 Thank you, next

  1. The shop owner is really inconsiderate and anti-social. Blocking the public footpath with chairs and table, rendering the footpath not passable. The HDB should carry out enforcement action on Abundance
