Seafood review: Angie's Oyster Bar at 313 Outram Road, 02-01 Tan Boon Liat Building, Singapore 169073

Angie's Oyster Bar has always been on my to-go list, but I've never found the occasion to go until recently to celebrate my bestie's birthday. Situated on the 2nd floor of the "outbuilding" at Tan Boon Liat complex, it definitely relies more on word of mouth than foot traffic. But I like that confidence and the space was airy and cosy with an indoor and outdoor area. We had a pleasant dinner though the 10.30pm no alcohol rule really killed the vibe!

Here's the menu. Of course being an Oyster Bar means a heavy leaning on seafood.

We started with a couple of house special oysters. They were pretty good, juicy and fresh with a creaminess that only oysters can give. 4/5

They paired especially well with their house white (we had 3 glasses each - should have just gotten a bottle). Them oysters were a bit pricey during dinner (non-Happy hour though). I think HH is a good time to go for oysters at $1.50 / pc is a good deal!

We also gave their Taramosalata (S$14) with sourdough bread a try. I fell in love with this fish roe dip ever since I visited Greece. Here it was delicious - especially with the pops of flavour from the caviar and the yummy olive oil drizzled sourdough! 4/5

Next, the Truffled Mac and Cheese (S$24) with candied bacon, roquefort, aged cheddar, gruyere, mushrooms and truffle. The candied bacon was sweet and savoury and those plus the mushrooms helped to cut through the rich 3-cheese sauce. A very sinful indulgent dish but one that we can't stop digging into! 4/5

Lastly we gave their Angie's Original Fish and Chips (S$28) a try since they are a seafood restaurant and this was a titular dish too, right? Wrong.. it was the most disappointing dish of the night with an overly dry and fishy NZ wild-caught Ling fish (wow, the name). The batter was nice and crunchy though - that's probably the only redeeming factor. I'll go to Lad and Dad instead for my F&C fix. 3/5

Overall a nice place to chill and chat over some wine and seafood. I'll say the bites did better than the mains, but I think they do deserve another go. Happy Hour, here I come!

🙅 Thank you, next
