Authentic Vietnamese Sandwiches: Banh Mi Saigon at 505 Ang Mo Kio Ave 8, #01-2668, Singapore 560505

Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches are quite rare in Singapore, but they are much more enjoyable (in my view) compared to Western subs. That's why I was quite happy to discover Banh Mi Saigon in my hood this year. No it wasn't new, I just didn't think there was any around our suburbs. Here it is though after a 20m bus and walk. The stall's unmissable, but there are signs everywhere to seek permission to take photos and videos (which I did).

This stall specalises in sandwiches and Vietnamese drinks, though there's also sticky rice and spring rolls. You can see all the delectable ingredients used while you queue (a little) and wait for the sandwich to be made fresh.

I chose to "dine in", which actually just meant sitting on one of the stools with its legs cut in half outside the stall (along with a short table) just like in Vietnam. There's a bit of the feels there for sure!

Here are the prices of the banh mi. The special (pork, cold cuts) banh mi thit goes for $$6.90, slightly pricey but there's lots of ingredients. There are also other proteins like shredded chicken and beef.

I wouldn't really recommend their drinks though only because they are quite pricey, from $4.50 and up and isn't as justified compared to the food.

So here's the special banh mi - it was really good because the bread's extremely crispy on the outside and soft inside. The ingredients were also really generous and packed with flavours without being extremely spicy or wet. You can actually taste all the cold cuts working together to bring you a satisfying meal. The iced Vietnamese coffee was a bit too sweet for me, being quite strong as well.

I've not tried other flavours but would recommend Banh Mi Saigon's sandwiches because of how legit they are! Go try it and let me know if you agree.
