I tried the famous Dickson Nasi Lemak in May 2022 and found it to be quite a decent relative to the Village Park Nasi Lemak in KL, which I have had before as well. We had to wait 20 minutes for our order to be ready (so we hopped across the street for some Petit Pain rolls), but it wasn't that bad a wait. The only thing is its located at Joo Chiat, which for me is quite a distance. The shop's really just a space for the team to serve up the boxed nasi lemak, which at $9.20 excluding GST, is quite a hefty price. It's worth it though I think, occasionally.
Here's the utilitarian but clean and bright space inside a shophouse.
There's also craft beers for takeaway at the joint.
Here's the Ayam Goreng Berempah (S$9.20) nasi lemak set. The rice was fragrant but the star of the show has to be the perfectly fried chicken with a crispy spiced exterior and juicy insides. The chilli by the way, was spicy AF so be warned. Together though they became the Avengers of nasi lemak.
Even though it is quite pricey, I have not eaten such great chicken in Singapore, and a flight ticket to KL would be much more than $9.20. Hence I'll still recommend anyone who's into fried chicken and coconut rice to check them out.
