Vietnamese Food Review: An Là Ghiền Vietnamese Barbeque & Hotpot at 45 Lor 27 Geylang, Singapore 388177

I went out of my comfort zone recently to try out an authentic Vietnamese restaurant called An La Ghien in Geylang that my friend suggested, and boy I was glad I did! The place was an open air serving up BBQ, hotpot and regular Vietnamese food (including banh mi and pho) and it just feels like a very underrated and relaxed place.

Unfortunately because of all the cooking and Singapore's weather in general, it was also VERY warm and sticky inside, and smoky if someone next to your table decides to cook up a bbq storm.

We had some Vietnamese rice paper rolls ordered from the mobile site, which is a convenient way to send orders to the kitchen. These came out VERY quickly, and they tasted as good as it looked! The pork slices inside were tender and not smelly at all.

Our friend also got a very hearty bowl of beef pho. The soup's decent.

We also shared this bete leaf wrapped beef (or pork) dish? Google said it is Bò Lá Lốt. Regardless, it was my first time trying it and I was initially hesitant because I thought the entire thing was just a rolled betel leaf. Turned out it wasn't, and the leaf taste was quite mild, and overall it was delicious!

There was also a lot of vegetables of all types for us to wrap stuff around or eat with as condiments. That I think is the secret to why there are no fat Vietnamese people around. Here we ordered an omelette, fried to perfection.

The pork cutlet with dry vermicelli bowl was also good with all the sauces.

I would highly recommend you guys check out An La Ghien for authentic, delicious and affordable Vietnamese food outside of the typical pho and prawn rolls - they have even more exotic dishes too like catfish which we didn't manage to try this time.
