Food Review: Shrimp Prawn Seafood at 53 Boat Quay, Singapore 049842

I recently visited Shrimp Prawn Seafood last month for dinner one Saturday evening and was pleasantly surprised with the food and vibes there. The place was the brain child of Chef-Owner Alvin who made more than 10 trips to BKK to learn how to perfect the steelpot vermicelli dish. It is commonly made with crab and called Goong Ob Woon Sen. On my visit there, I tried their Jumbo King Crab Flavoured Meat Steelpot Vermicelli (S$13.8) instead of the pricier seafood since I am not a big fan of peeling crustaceans.

By the way, if you make a reservation for 8pm seating alfresco on Saturdays from now till August, you will get to watch fireworks from the NDP rehearsal for free! It went on for quite long as well when we were there by chance. Pro tip, park at the open air carpark near Riverwalk Apartments and walk over.

The place was quite comfortable even though we had a heat wave in June, with a semi-AC indoor area and alfresco seating.

Here's one page of their extensive menu. As you can see, the vermicelli comes with different seafood varieties at different price points. You can view more of the menu on their website (erm, ignore the unsafe warning).

We also got some ice cold beer to go with the food since it was so warm outside. The glasses came chilled and they were tiny, so cute.

We tried the clear Tom Yum Seafood Soup (S$15.8) as well. The seafood and ingredients inside was generous and the sour taste of the tom yum was super appetising. Would highly recommend getting one of these to share. 4/5

The steelpot vermicelli king crab flavoured meat (S$13.8) was undoubtedly the star of the evening. It was peppery, seasoned with lard but not overly oily and just smooth enough for the noodles to glide down with the jumbo imitation crab meat that fell apart upon touch. It was so good I think I finished it within 10 minutes or less. 4.5/5

We also tried their Moo Ping (S$8.8 for 3), or Thai pork skewers, which was really tasty, juicy and complements the mains really well. I would highly recommend this too! 4/5

Overall I think Shrimp Prawn Seafood's a super underrated restaurant that more people should know about if they are a fan of Thai vermicelli noodles and seafood. Here's my TikTok video of my visit.

@alexis.cheong ๐Ÿ“Shrimp Prawn Seafood at 53 Boat Quay is really quite underrated for their Thai seafood vermicelli! The jumbo "crabmeat" ver was also super VFM at under $15 each. Recommend that u reserve online first. Pro tip: If you book for Saturdays 8pm and sit alfresco, you can enjoy ndp fireworks for 5m from 8.15pm until August! #sgfoodie #foodtiktok #thaifood #fypsg ♬ Padam Padam - Kylie Minogue
