Peranakan Western Food Review: PangiNut at 215 Ang Mo Kio Ave 1, Singapore 560215

It is so rare to find Peranakan food in the heartlands, so when I learned that there is a fairly new Peranakan Western food stall near me, I immediately made a beeline to try it out and was pleasantly surprised at the creativeness and the affordability of it. The owners and this stall were profiled on various media outlets but the proof's in the pudding. In my case, it's in the Buah Keluak Chicken Chop and Assam Nanas Fish Burger. Other than western classics, they also serve up pizzas with interesting toppings.

Here's the menu in case you are thinking to visit and wondering what to eat! As you can see prices are also very affordable.

I first tried the Buah Keluak Chicken Chop (S$8) which came with some really bland aglio olio pasta, wedges and a tiny achar side which was so shiok. The bland pasta actually works because the iconic black or candlenut sauce that is slathered all over the tender chicken chop was so flavourful. I imagine a lot of work must go into cooking this gravy.

The second time I visited I tried their Assam Nanas Fish Burger (S$7) which came with some fries. The fish fillet is breaded and topped with the tangy fresh sauce with pineapple chunks, which gave this fish burger a delightful fresh twist. Again I really enjoyed the combination.

Here's a TikTok video of my visits.

If you are near the area, this is one good Peranakan stall to try that combines traditional cooking with a Wester food twist. Plus, support local and those who dare to come out and innovate while keeping traditional tastes alive!
