I still remember when I met the mother. The mother sourdough 😅 from Elixir Coffee & Wine when I visited last year when they moved to this current location, of course! And today, they have decided that these sourdough pizzas warranted their own brand called Paradise Pizza and I have to agree that it is a good move to focus the menu into a pizza-forward one. Because one of the things that impressed me previously was the myriad of creative fusion pizzas with that addictive chewy sourdough.
Here's the food menu. A one-pager, but it has everything you need to have a good time. As you can see, 6 out of the 8 pizzas on it are not your typical flavours but they did keep the margherita and pepperoni on for the purists. Prices are also super decent.
Here's the coffee, drinks and wine list from Elixir, which no longer sells food (moved to Paradise Pizza).
Here are the power ovens churning out those delicious pizzas. It does not have to be wood fired to have those leopard spots, though I do miss having that slightly charred and smokey flavour infusion. But here the charm lies in the dough and toppings.
We started with the Deep Fried Burrata (S$24) which is topped with balsamic vinegar spheres, which is a super creative touch. The creamy interior and the light but crunchy fried exterior made for a great textural experience, especially with that tangy layer of tomato sauce and bursts of sour balsamic vinegar!
On to the main event. We were given the choice of 1 pasta 1 pizza or 2 pizzas for the tasting. We definitely overrode the pasta option because their pizzas are so good! Here we started with the Bismarck Blanc (S$26) which instead of a tomato base, saw the parma ham on some white sauce and a sous vide egg in the middle. The creaminess of the egg with the salty bits of parma on that umami white sauce layer worked really well with the chewy and not too sour sourdough. 4/5
We also got the Hot Assam (S$22), which is a take on the Assam laksa with sausage, ginger flower, chilli and that tangy assam as a sauce over the pie. It tasted much more Asian that the other pizza but still worked because of the spices (but it is not hot spicy). However, I was quite distracted by the bits of raw onions on top since I am not a fan of that, which then detracted me from fully enjoying the pizza. 3.5/5
We finished the meal with the Darn Good Tiramisu (S$14) which I'm told is a signature and made with their Blacklist espresso. The deconstructed-ish dessert was rich, creamy and indulgent and while I could definitely taste the coffee I would prefer my tiramisus to be boozier. For folks with a sweet tooth this is definitely a must-try. 3.5/5
Come for the pizzas and stay for the vibes. That's what I'll recommend! Get some of the sharing bites, a couple of pizzas, some wine or cocktails and you're set. Bonus point being that the resto is very peaceful so you can come here for date night or just with your besties to catch up!
