Hotel Buffet Review: Savour the Straits Peranakan Buffet and Durians at Peppermint in L4 PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay, Singapore 039594

If you're a fan of Peranakan cuisine, you're in for a treat at PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay, Singapore with the "Savour the Straits" Peranakan Buffet and free flow durian buffet (Fri/Sat only) at Peppermint restaurant on Level 4 from now until 11 August!

The Peranakan buffet is created by the hotel's Chef de Cuisine Leon in collaboration with 1-Michelin Star Chef Auntie Gaik Lean from Penang and the buffet stations are HALAL. The chefs have thoughtfully substituted beef for pork and done so expertly to make it more inclusive.

Other than the Peranakan spread you will also find other buffet classics like international/Indian cuisine, fresh seafood (oysters, snow crab, prawns..) and sashimi at the buffet which makes this super worth it. There is also plenty of seating but weekends definitely warrant a reservation!

I loved the decor peppered around the restaurant as well. A lot of authentic relics and Peranakan furniture and decor!

This is Beef Belly Pongteh. SO GOOD.

Super spicy Peranakan style slipper lobster. And I mean, bird's eye chili hot kind of spicy!

Impressive range of Peranakan desserts like Ondeh Ondeh cake

And different kueh kueh!

There's also lots of Durian Pangat, which is durian puree with gula melaka. TBH I prefer durian in its original form because my favourite part is the texture. I also tried the signature Pulut Hitam (black glutinous rice) which was superb, paired with some chendol gelato.

There's also 2 special drinks available - Sparkling Bandung and Refreshing Lemongrass!

I got a bit of everything to sample. Only gripe is the beef rendang was a TAAAAD tough and I was dying from the spiciness of the lobster, but the minced meatball soup for example was perfection.

We also tried some sweet and sour eggs. So simple and very homely.

There's also Nasi Ulam, which is one of my favourite Peranakan carbs. The fragrance from this was unbeatable. Apparently Executive Chef Chan was telling us that they use salted fish in this and all the herbs came from the Urban Farm where they grow their own herbs and vegetables. That's SUPER commendable.

Assam prawns were great too.

One of the standout features of this buffet is the free-flow durian buffet available on Friday and Saturday nights featuring Mao Shan Wang, Red Prawn and D24, and you can choose to have it grilled or regular. For durian lovers, this is an absolute must-try. Imagine indulging in the king of fruits to your heart's content after savouring a variety of traditional Peranakan dishes. The $128++ weekend dinner price is definitely worth it!

I also did an IG reel which you can watch here or below

Here's the pricing, which I feel is SUPER worth it for the amount and type of food you're getting.

I've also taken a look at the reservations to see if spots are filled up. If you get the 7.45pm ones you can also get to catch fireworks outdoors on Saturday nights (around 8.15pm) and on National Day (Fri 9 Aug)! So hurry up and reserve.

Many thanks to PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay, Singapore for the invite!
