Event Alert: Sake Sake Event returns at Shukuu Izakaya on 31 Aug and 1 Sep 2024!

If you are a sake lover, then the highly anticipated Sake Sake event will be just up your alley! It is a FREEFLOW sake event happening at Shukuu Izakaya (8 Stanley Street, Singapore 068727) this 31 August Sat and 1 Sep Sun across two different 3-hour time slots (12-3pm and 4-7pm) with 100 varieties of sake available.

This freeflow 3-hour event featuring 100 types of sake can be accessed with a ticket starting from $50 (first 100 gets it at 10% off!), which I think is a SUPER good deal to enjoy such a wide range of premium, curated sake. Ticket holders will also be able to buy coupons for food which has been intentionally curated to pair well with the sake (or the other way around).

Standard SAKE SAKE 2024 Freeflow Ticket - $50
‘Tokubetsu’ Combo #1 SAKE SAKE 2024 Freeflow Ticket - $80
‘Itsumi’ Combo #2 SAKE SAKE 2024 Freeflow Ticket - $110

At the media preview, we got to sample just a small selection of the sake labels and it was an eye and tastebuds opening experience.

There was not just cold sake but also warm ones and the sake comes from different regions of Japan with different rice varieties and brewing techniques. This was put together with some delicious oden.

Here's a look at some of the sake labels available. We first tried traditional vs modern sake. You can see the tasting notes and descriptions below (click image to view in bigger size).

Then we moved on to the Seasonal sakes, which are more interesting because they contained a bit more character. There was even a sake at 8% alcohol, which makes it more like a shandy...? Sakedy?

Here are some extra sake we tried that was not categorised, including one on the leftmost that was commissioned by a Singaporean drink store, Woodstock Singapore.

We also tried some premium sake and learned that a bottle of the stuff can go for $6,000. You can get a taste for the premium stuff if you upgrade your ticket beyond the standard pours.

They were so fancy, the labels were holographic!

An integral part of Sake Sake is actually the food, since it is organised by an izakaya. Sake with Japanese finger food is a natural pairing and different flavours can be brought out by the sake you are drinking, which makes it SUPER interesting, to me at least.

There were gyozas, sushi, karaage (fried chicken), salad with spicy miso sauce, and even a live takoyaki station!

We also had some delightful pork belly and chicken meatballs.

We also tried Oysters cooked in sake lees, which was a very strong flavoured dish that needs a strong sake to wash it down. Luckily there is also oden soup with daikon, which was so comforting.

During the preview, we learned from the sake sommelier about the differences between different cup shapes and how that affects the taste and aroma of the sake, which was also served at warm temperatures. It is really interesting because you can definitely perceive the differences! This is also a commemorative sake cup featuring our very own Merlion, so cute!

If you are curious and want to learn more about sake, or just get the chance to try up to 100 varieties on a weekend, this is your chance. I highly encourage for you to BUY TICKETS HERE ASAP to enjoy the 10% discount and make it a fun Saturday/Sunday with a friend!

Thanks to Shukuu Izakaya and PROTEGIE PR for the invite!
