What a cultured and delicious night it was at the Europe, Full of Character event held at the charming L'Angelus on 12 September! Hosted by the passionate cheesemonger François Robin (@robindescheeses) and the team at @cheesycharacters_sg, it was an evening dedicated to celebrating some of the finest French cheeses right here in Singapore.
The event started at 6pm and was buzzing with cheese lovers like myself all night as we sampled cheese canapes and drank French wine.
This wasn’t just your typical cheese tasting. François, known worldwide for his expertise, guided us through an extraordinary cheese and music pairing session! A first for me, the experience was both surprising and delightful, with each cue of the music transforming the way we tasted the cheeses (watch my TikTok video when it happens). As the melodies pitched upwards, I could feel the flavours of the bite heighten in intensity—who knew music and cheese could be such a perfect duo?
Behind François, a beautifully framed buffet table showcased a spread of artisanal French cheeses. From the rich Triple Cream to Brie filled with local ingredients, each cheese had its own story, and François took the time to introduce us to each one. His deep knowledge and infectious enthusiasm made the learning experience fun and memorable.
If you did not already know, cheese is full of DIFFERENT characters, and that's what makes them so interesting.
This was effectively my dinner. I was so full after this plate!
And it didn’t stop there! We even had the chance to cut our own cheeses to bring home at the end of the evening and it was a fun, hands-on moment that really let us appreciate the craft behind it.
As a memento of the evening, we were also gifted a gorgeous cheeseboard (and I got an extra for a friend), perfect for future cheese indulgence at home.
I left the event not only with a full belly but also with a wealth of knowledge and newfound appreciation about European cheeses.
A huge thank you to @cheesycharacters_sg and François Robin for an unforgettable evening of sensory delights. I’m already looking forward to experimenting with these French treasures at my next cheese night!
