I had the pleasure to be invited recently to try the Local-Inspired Afternoon Tea at Pacific Emporium, the restaurant located inside Pan Pacific Singapore. I never knew there was something like this in there, which of course made me very curious to try it. And amidst rising prices for dining out, this seemed like a good option for how it is priced at $68++ per adult on weekdays for 5+1 savoury bites, 6 desserts and a pot of TWG tea or Lavazza coffee. The dining area was very peaceful with tent-like pods on top of an elevated platform with water running in between.
You can also top up for $20 for a glass of Taittinger Brut Réserve Champagne, and it's only $10 more for their Saturday/Sunday tea which comes with Live Stations of local noodles, rojak and even D24 Durian Crepe! There are 2 slots for it from 1-3pm and 4-6pm.
We started with some coffee and tea. The aroma from these was perfect to start conversations flowing in between the sips and bites!
And here is the 3-tier Afternoon Tea set, which had a cute cage-like cover that mirrors the pods were sat in.
The Raspberry Sakura Red Velvet and Pulut Hitam Brulee Mousse are available on weekdays only. My favourite of the two was the Pulut Hitam, but all their desserts were exquisitely made. It reminded me of the Afternoon Tea I had at this quirky place in London (can't remember the name!)
The sweet treats were mostly twists on local desserts such as the Mango Pomelo Sable and Coconut Bandung with Chendol.
The savoury bites were quite cute because it included the Hai Tien Lo Salted Egg Yolk Yam Puff that had those swan necks.
Which was what we started with first.
This had a slightly sweet interior due to the custard salted egg yolk, encased in a very "su" flaky-crispy yam ball? It was really yammy (pun intended).
The Keyaki Wagyu Sando was also a delight in a mouthful with the soft and tender wagyu beef.
I think our favourite had to be the SG Chilli Crab Meat in Egg Custard with Mini Bun on top. The chilli packed a punch but you could still taste the sweet tomato-ey seafood flavour in the mild chawanmushi (egg custard). And the mini bun was so demure, so mindful.
We also tried half of the Baba Ghanoush Avocado Bowl which instead of being on a baguette, they received feedback that it was too hard and thus it was placed in a tart shell. This was a pop of brightness.
The additional item not in the menu was this
crabmeat on rock melon, which I enjoyed very much.
The crabmeat was very fresh and thus its flavour and the sweetness of the rock melon complimented each other beautifully.
We ended the savoury tier with the Penang Crispy Pork Lobak with 5 Spices wrapped in beancurd skin. This was a super traditional type of food but made modern in presentation. The slightly sweet "sausage" was spiced just right.
We started the sweets section with the Hazelnut Crunchy Dark Coco, which was unfortunately maybe a mistake because it was intensely sweet. Luckily we had our drinks with us! I also think that my sweet tooth has disappeared as I grew up because I don't really like sweet desserts as much. However this was still ok because it was just one small portion!
Instead this Mango Pomelo Sable was a much welcome treat, very refreshing as expected.

The Coconut Bandung with Chendol was puzzling at first as to where the bandung was, which we found out after biting into it. Nestled inside the chocolate shell was the coconut cream with desiccated coconut and there was a bandung flavoured jelly center. Super creative?!
The Apple Yuzu Citrus was also very fun to look at and eat.
Again the yuzu bit was hidden inside.
Overall, the Local-Inspired Afternoon Tea's an indulgent treat worth checking out if you are not someone who likes the typical afternoon tea items of scones and cucumber sandwiches. Here you get to sample the local favourites but reimagined as small bites in a very pleasant environment.
🙅 Thank you, next
