Food Review: Canton Seafood Dinner Buffet and Afternoon Tea at The Westin Singapore, Asia Square Tower 2, Singapore 018961

I recently had the pleasure of trying the Afternoon Tea at Lobby Lounge and the Canton Seafood Dinner Buffet at Seasonal Tastes located on level 32 of The Westin Singapore. This limited-time culinary showcase, running until 31 May 2025, features the extraordinary talents of Chef Leo Cao Jin Ming, Executive Chinese Chef of The Westin Pazhou, who is here on a visit to bring authentic Guangzhou flavours to our shores.

Upon arrival, I was immediately drawn to the breathtaking panoramic views of Singapore's Marina Bay skyline, an impressive backdrop that complements the exceptional spread of authentic Cantonese delicacies awaiting diners. The Afternoon Tea sets were laid out for the media and we had the pleasure of listening to Chef Cao introduce the different dishes.

We tried the char siew, which was absolutely magnificent—gorgeously caramelised and dipped in sauce once more after being sliced.

I was also thoroughly impressed by the Oyster Omelette, which tasted different from our local "orh luak". At Seasonal Tastes, the omelette is quite thin and made a la minute at the buffet line and the highlight was the sourish chilli on top. Another standout was the Salted Lemon Fried Rice, a unique offering I hadn't encountered at other buffets. The fragrant rice was perfectly cooked—each grain distinct yet cohesive—with the salted lemon adding a surprising citrusy sweet pop of flavour that cut through the richness of the other dishes brilliantly.

It almost tastes a bit like olive fried rice, but the salted lemon bits gave it a more citrusy but not sour fragrance.

Notable highlights of the buffet which I did not try but sounded really good included the Crispy Duck with Lychee Flake, Cantonese Steamed Fish with Green Ginger, and various seafood offerings such as the Bi Feng Tang style prawns. For those with a sweet tooth, traditional desserts like Put Chai Ko and Shunde Double Skin Milk Curd round out the extensive spread.

During the same tasting session, I also sampled the Canton Afternoon Tea (served at the Lobby Lounge). Priced at S$78++, the items for two pax comes presented on two elegant trays with a selection of both savoury and sweet treats. The Bi Feng Tang Lobster was garlicky and the meaty lobster fell off the shell readily while I also enjoyed the Braised Cod in Golden Pumpkin Broth with Caviar. Unfortunately the grilled prawns sat out for too long and was a bit stodgy by the time I had it! The pot bowl mala skewers were also interesting.

Here's the menu list of items

Here's the savoury tray for two - the cod fish and lobster were great!

Here's the sweet dessert tray for two. I really enjoyed the Sugar Egg puff and mung bean iced jelly!

The clear chicken Si Shen Tang at the start (included with the Afternoon Tea set) warmed my stomach and got me ready for the feast. Instead of dim sum, this Afternoon Tea presented an alternative view on what Cantonese food is but retained the classics.

I couldn't help thinking the dinner buffet offered significantly better value. If you're keen to try it, perhaps consider it more for the experience and unique offerings. If you're looking for an exceptional Cantonese dining experience with stunning views to match, the Canton Seafood Dinner Buffet at The Westin Singapore is well worth booking. At S$128++ per adult, it's not inexpensive, but with the current 1-for-1 promotions available with major bank cards, it becomes quite the value proposition for such high-quality authentic Cantonese cuisine.
