HDB Resale Flat Reno Review: Superior Floor Pine Oak vinyl flooring

Disclaimer: Superior Floor sponsored the vinyl flooring in my new HDB resale flat. I also receive a referral fee if you book using my code. The experience and opinions below are my own.

New floors make SUCH a difference to a home. I recently had vinyl flooring installed in my new HDB resale flat by Superior Floor, a Singapore flooring supplier and installer, and I am super happy with how it turned out. Here’s how the whole process went, from choosing samples to watching the flat come together in a day.

Who is Superior Floor

Superior Floor supplies and installs flooring for HDB flats, condos, landed homes and commercial spaces in Singapore. Besides vinyl, they also offer carpet and WPC decking, as well as screeding and self-levelling services. Their vinyl range currently has 39 colours across five collections, including wood, stone and concrete looks, plus herringbone designs. So there’s quite a bit to choose from.

What appealed to me was the help with the actual floor underneath, as well as the colour on top. Their service covers selection, site assessment, preparation and installation, and they say their installers have more than 10 years of experience. In my case, Shane checked the existing tiles and explained what I could expect before we went ahead. That was useful because this is a resale flat with some uneven flooring, not a perfectly blank canvas.

They also list up to 20 years of limited residential product warranty, a one-year workmanship warranty and a six-month silicone warranty, subject to their terms. You can check the applicable cover when getting your quotation.

The process from Instagram to a site measurement

Shane from Superior Floor contacted me on Instagram on a Saturday. When I agreed to the sponsorship, she replied on Sunday and sent over their e-brochure for me to browse. We then arranged a date for measurements, and for her to bring the samples I had shortlisted.

During the visit, she also looked at my existing tiled floor and pointed out the unevenness. I had hacked away part of the storeroom, so there was an area that needed particular attention. She gave me the option of additional floor levelling and explained that I might feel the unevenness around 10–20% with it, compared with 60–70% without it. Those were her rough estimates to help me understand the difference for my flat, rather than a measured result.

I was okay with going without the additional levelling. I appreciated having it explained upfront so I could decide what I was comfortable with. If you’re considering vinyl flooring over existing tiles, this is something to discuss at the site visit: the condition of the floor underneath still matters.

Choosing Pine Oak from the Nordic collection

Shane brought all three shortlisted samples on measurement day, which meant I could see them in the actual lighting at home. This helped a lot. A colour on a screen is one thing, but having it on the floor in front of you makes the decision much easier.

Ginger Wood looked too uniform for me, without the visible wood grain I wanted. Coffee Brown was too dark for the flat. I was also curious about the stone vinyl so I got a peek at Himalayan Salt, but they were too small for what I envisoned. Pine Oak was the one! It was lighter but still neutral, with enough wood grain to give it some character.

For anyone who wants the exact one, mine is Pine Oak SP3300 from the Nordic collection. It has a smooth finish, and the product page lists 5mm thickness, a 0.5mm wear layer and a click-lock installation system. I liked that I could have the look of wood grain without an embossed surface.

Once that was settled, I arranged the installation for about a week later. This was before the peak period; Shane mentioned that the wait could be about two weeks during busier periods such as year end. Worth keeping in mind if you’re trying to coordinate everything before moving in. Check their available dates when you enquire, as that was the lead time quoted to me.

Vinyl flooring installation done in one day

The flooring was delivered to my unit the day before installation.

On the day itself, one installer arrived at 8.45am and got straight to work, prepping the uneven parts of the tiled floor with patching material. This was local preparation, separate from the additional levelling I had decided against, as the part of the store room wall had been hacked off.

Before starting, the installer also asked which direction I wanted and advised running the planks lengthways along my long, narrow flat, instead of following the horizontal direction of the previous vinyl. I went with his recommendation. If you notice the kitchen floor in the photos, that’s why it now runs perpendicular to the new flooring and is a different colour. The kitchen wasn’t part of this installation.

By 10.25am, he had finished laying the entire living room. One guy! I was quite impressed by how quickly it was taking shape.

One thing I was glad I did beforehand was vacuum and mop the tiles. That round of cleaning wasn’t part of the prep I observed, and I knew I would feel weird thinking about dust trapped under my nice new floor. It’s a me thing. If you’re particular about this too, ask what preparation is included so you can sort it out before installation day.

At 11.05am, he started on the storeroom.

I had to step out for lunch, and when I came back at 2.35pm, he was already finishing the skirting and trims. The last step was applying silicone to all the skirting and cleaning up the offcuts and marks from the work. He was done by 4.15pm.

The speed was impressive, but it was the finishing that made me happy. The work around the edges was meticulous and detailed, with the skirting and trims neatly done. These are the bits you end up looking at every day, so I was glad they received that attention.

The finished vinyl floor in Pine Oak (Nordic collection)

I’m really pleased with Pine Oak. It’s light without losing the wood grain, and the neutral colour works well in the space. The smooth surface feels easier to clean, while the grain helps conceal a bit of dust and dirt. It feels good under my feet too, which you obviously can’t tell from photos!

From Shane’s replies and the sample visit to the installation itself, the whole experience was smooth and professional. It’s still a newly installed floor, so this is my review of the process, workmanship and first impressions rather than long-term wear. But so far, I’m super happy with the result.
