KUVO is a new multi-concept store + bar + lounge + restaurant by TCC that's situated on the second floor above Robert Timms at the Orchard Shopping Centre which is just beside 313 Somerset. I was invited to the launch of KUVO recently and found the whole space to be modern, spacious and luxurious.
First there's the gift shop for those looking to buy some home utensils and memorabilia, as well as delicately crafted chocolates and cakes.
Then there's the 40-seater Elixer Bar, helmed by mixologist Yutaka Nakashima who has over 16 years of experience in bartending and cooking. Cocktails start at $21++ and include concoctions like cherry tomatoes and dulce sauce, and also offer small plates such as prosciutto wrapped fresh figs ($16++) to freshly shucked oysters (market price).
There's also the Vine Lounge just beside the restaurant, that seats up to 32 and carries over 140 wine labels – including exclusive selections like the bubbly Brut by Antica Fratta ($17++ per glass and $98++ per bottle) and Pinot Bianco by J. Hofstätter ($16++ per glass and $84++ per bottle).
Lastly, we were treated to a buffet preview of the full ala-carte menu that by now has launched at Ambrosia I & II (the restaurant). Even though it was buffet style, the quality of the food's really up to scratch.
Here's a little bit of info about the restaurant offerings.
The main dining space at KUVO seats up to 88 persons (over two separate wings) and serves an All-Day a la carte menu daily. The menu ranges from all-day breakfasts in both Western and Chinese styles to main courses such as the KUVO Atlantic Cod Meunière ($38++) of sweet pea-crusted fresh cod medallion with pearl barley fricassee, potato gratin and citrus nutty-brown butter, Portobello & Cheese Wagyu Burger ($36++) and Asian selections including the Slipper Lobster Laksa Lemak ($22++) and King Prawn Noodle Soup ($20++) with King prawns, pork slices, fish cake and yellow noodles in a mildly spicy superior prawn broth.
There's also tea time classics served on a three-tier silver tray, available from 2pm to 5.30pm at $22++ per person.
Even though prices are slightly high here compared to somewhere like PS Cafe for example, you're getting innovative and high quality food at a very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere hidden away from the world on the second floor of a shopping centre in Orchard that people hardly notice. KUVO is definitely an interesting concept that I hope will be here to stay.
