Cafe Review: Stirling Highway at 5 Ridgewood Close, Singapore 276696

Before you start to think of Stirling Highway as a cafe at Stirling Road near the super awesome cereal chicken zi char place, think again. This Stirling actually refers to an Australian location where the owners - a merry young couple had learnt how to cook. And cook they did, so much so they had to bring all that goodness back to share with us! I was invited by a friend to give the place a good and I'm glad I did, even if the cafe is located in a very ULU-ated location at Ridgewood Close, beside a condominium (some might know it as where Haato was).

Anyway! Here's the menu. Very uncomplicated and straightforward. Brunch, Salads, Pastas, Drinks and Desserts. The maximum you can spend on food was $16 -- pretty affordable I must say!

Drinks list. Their coffee beans are from Highlander, which is generally a crowd pleaser.

There's also a great selection of artisanal teas that are NOT FOR SALE. They also do not have any labels/brand. The owner actually got them from a supplier.

The hot ice wine tea was particularly fragrant and had a particular depth to it. I would highly recommend for you to try that, even if everything else looks so delicious!

You can smell and see the teas in a sample tray they have.

Well moving on to food! The highlight of Stirling Highway - their amazing Pulled Pork Pancakes ($14) was so amazing, you have no idea what you're missing until you tried it! I know I did. I never though the combination of pulled pork and pancakes can go so well.

The pancakes are on the thick side - as you can see. But it helps balance out the intensely flavoured pulled pork. This is a meal for a really hungry person. I've a feeling guys would particularly love it only because its the first time pancakes are not girly and just pieces of flour?

Their smoked salmon eggs ben ($12.90) was pretty good too - especially because it is lying on a slice of homemade brioche. Who does that nowadays? I can just eat the brioche plain tbh! The hollandaise sauce here is a bit much, so for those watching their calories, perhaps you can request to have it on the side?

There's also the egg white omelette ($10.50) with arugula, feta and mushrooms. TBH this is the first time I've eaten an egg white omelette and... I don't like it. The genre of the dish really, not the dish itself! I can see why people will like it, but for me it's simply too dry because there is no yolk! I'm a runny yolks kinda gal. I'm glad I had the chance to try this though! Now I know what it is like.

Then moving on to lunch - we ordered an Arugula Salad (Side, $6) because it came with chargrilled watermelon! That's really special. We all enjoyed it very much. The vinaigrette was just nice and the little bits of watermelon added the refreshing touch.

Then, another favorite of the group that day - the Prawn Pesto Pasta ($16). It was really really awesome. Addictive almost! I think we could all have had a full portion each, if not for all the previous brunch dishes and salad. Plus there's desserts later. But I would say this is a simple dish done well. Choose this if you are there for lunch!

Moving on to desserts - they have a cabinet full of home baked pies, cakes and tarts just waiting for people to devour them! We savored their passionfruit meringue tart, which was gorgeous.

The sticky date pudding cake was tad sweet for me, but the salted caramel cupcake was just nice.

There was a private function that afternoon just after our visit so we saw them decorating in the theme of Frozen the movie. Isn't that great? Except for the fact that the girl was dressed up as a princess that pranced around. I think when they dress up as princesses they tend to develop the Princess Syndrome, if the parents are not careful!

Cupcakes for the party looked great though. Do you want to build a snowman?

Yes I would recommend this place - but due to the location I don't see how I might get there in the very near future. You have to drive or cab there, but it will not be a wasted trip if you do. Check this if you live around the neighbourhood and support the owners in their venture would you.
