Event Report: luckin coffee unveils Big Cheese Latte & Luck in Christmas promos in Singapore

By now, unless you're living under a rock, I am sure most of you would have heard or seen luckin coffee, the Chinese coffee brand that has overtaken Starbucks in China. In Singapore, they've only opened in end March this year but already has a total of 24 outlets, with more to open in December! They have also rolled out more than 50 drinks, averaging about 1 new drink weekly. That's super impressive but I also have to admit that I have not tried it all these months since I work from home mostly. Which is why I was super glad to be invited to their Christmas media tasting at One Raffles Place to try out their latest festive drinks and check out their buy 1 get 1 free promos (scroll to the end to read!)

luckin coffee is not just your typical coffee chain. Instead, they are a game-changer in delivering coffee experiences because of their tech-driven "rapid retail" concept enabled by a mobile app which you can use to select and pick up your coffee order without going to a cashier. They also have a luckin coffee Membership that was launched recently in November that allows members to unlock a world of countless rewards and surprises, including vouchers, surprise gifts, and complimentary coffee bean upgrades.

Also, new users who download their app can get their first drink (any drink!) at $0.99 - click here on your mobile to use my referral link, and when you share luckin coffee with a friend, you and your friend can get next drink for $0.99 which is double the fun!

At the media tasting, we all had the chance to try their newest drink, the Big Cheese Latte that is made with New Zealand cream cheese and more aromatic coffee for a unique savoury, sweet and coffee taste. Apparently luckin coffee sold 6.59 million cups of this in their first week of launch in China, which was madness. I tried it and was pleasantly surprised that the savoury element made it taste like a cheesecake. It was a tad strange at first to have so many strong flavours in a sip, but I got used to it quickly.

Other than the Big Cheese Latte, they also kindly gave me 3 other drinks to try, including one of my absolute favourite flavours during the year end season - the Toffee Hazelnut Latte with whipped cream.

What I like is that you can customise each drink to be less or least sweet, which makes it a much healthier choice. I felt like the sugar selection feature works very well for luckin because they don't taste diluted while the coffee remains a strong presence, and they are respecting the different preferences and likes of their consumers.

The Merry Cocoa Christmas is a non-coffee chocolate drink that is smooth, rich and chocolatey. This is definitely an indulgent treat with a generous amount of high quality cocoa. While my personal preference is for lighter tea or coffee-based drinks, I can see why it would be perfect for kids.

Lastly, I had their Creme Brulee Latte, which had a caramel taste that goes really well with the coffee. However, I would still opt for the Toffee Hazelnut if given a choice because I really like the fragrant nuttiness in my coffee.

Also sharing some good news! luckin coffee is running a Luck in Christmas promotion now with their app. From now till 14 December, you will get buy 1 get 1 free coffee credits, effectively giving you 50% off their drinks. It's super worth it because those credits are valid for 1 year from purchase! Imagine getting a $8 Yirgacheffe Flat White at only $4, which does not exist anywhere in Singapore anymore. I guess that's why they limit the credits to 20 per person (and you get 20 free).

Then from 15th December to 29th December, you can look forward to a buy 1 get 1 free Coconut Crush series which consists of Coconut Latte, Coconut Velvet Latte and Iced Minty Coconut Latte. I heard the Coconut Latte's a big hit and is one of their bestsellers, so I will also be getting that when the promo period rolls around!

In conclusion, I think luckin coffee's going to do very well in Singapore given their tech, products and value. Here's a list of all their outlets where you can get your first drink at $0.99 or spend your coffee credits at.
